BC is moving toward licencing of offroad vehicles

Province wants to rein in off-road yahoos.  Tourism minister Kevin Krueger says government has had enough of those who run roughshod over wild public lands.

"B.C. is known as the Wild West of off-road motorized recreation, the only jurisdiction in North America that does not have legislation for the use of off-road vehicles on public lands."

 BCORMA logo

The BCORMA trail pass has been adopted by the VMC

From President Ben Hircock:

The membership unanimously voted on a motion to make a BCORMA trail pass a requirement to ride ALL VMC off-road events including dual sport and hill climb.  The cost is 30 dollars per year and the pass works across the province.  Extra passes will be available for those people who use more than one helmet and passes for those under 18 years are free. Passes will be available for purchase at all VMC off-road  events and at meetings. Quite a number of passes were sold at the meeting already and I  encourage members and non-members to participate in this program, as the benefits will come back to the riding public, club members or not. Also with the introduction of the Trail pass our trail maintenance fee has been dropped and the account set up for it will now be the Trail Pass account. As a note to future committees, we will need to include on posters for events, the requirement for a pass and that they will be on hand at events. As with any new initiative there will be hiccups, a lot of discussion has gone into the details of this program across the province by the 19 or so member clubs, so most of the obvious stuff has been addressed.

Please see the forum topic BCORMA trail pass if you wish to comment on or discuss the BCORMA trail pass.

The VMC needs your help
The VMC is a volunteer organization.  As such, all events are done for the members and public, by the members.  Volunteering to help on one of the events is the best way to get to know people and to help make a good name for yourself, along with making the event a success.  Check the forums for the events discussion to see what you can help out with or just send an email to the VMC with a general offer to help.  Also, you can usually find a contact email or phone number within the events calendar (from the main  menu) if you want to help with a specific event.

Aside from being one of the entrance requirements, volunteering some time is educational, often good fitness, and a fun way to become more a part of this club that we all enjoy.

To volunteer, send email to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

What kind of events do you run?

The VMC runs Trials, Enduros, Dualsport, and Street events.

Please see the Events Calendar on the main menu for actual event schedules and information.

Trials

Trials and some enduro events are held at the VMC club property on Happy Valley road.  In Trials the object is to navigate through a predefined course while not touching your foot to the ground, falling over, or stalling.  You can get an idea of the size of obstacles covered by some of the expert level riders at the video gallery by clicking here or by clicking the image below to see a modern trials image gallery.  Trials events have a wide range of obstacle courses suited to those at a beginner level, right up to those at a world class level.

Enduro

Most enduro events will be held at the new Tansky Main riding area near Jordan River, or riding areas near Cowichan Lake.

 Terra Nova

The Tansky Main riding area is crown land where the VMC has a trail cutting permit allowing us to improve the riding areas by creating and maintaining trails.  Events hosted at this area will describe precise directions to the site.  Some enduros and the very challenging Terra Nova are held in Lake Cowichan.

Dualsport

Dualsport rides are a combination of on and off-road riding.  Each event will vary significantly so once again, please contact the event organizer from the events calendar to determine riding levels and equipment required.

Street

Street events will be held in various locations and with various levels of experience required.

Century Run Road Ride

Please pay careful attention to the event announcement in the events calendar and if in doubt, contact the event organizer listed to determine exact suitability for your bike, equipment, and experience.

Hillclimb

The hillclimb event is held once per yeart the VMC property, being a contest of speed to ascend a steep grade and having multiple classes.  The Victoria day parade is a yearly event through downtown Victoria, typically having a group of trials riders from the VMC demonstrating the unique capabilities of trials motorcycles and riders.

Special Events

The annual Victoria Day parade is one of the special events where VMC riders get to showcase their talents.

Field Meet

The Field meet  is a contest of riding ability and is typically held once per year at the club property.

Please see the events calendar for more detailed descriptions of the events.

At the VMC, our goal is to ensure that all participants have a safe and enjoyable ride.  Often, events have multiple levels of competition and many are just fun events with no time limits or significant levels of difficulty.   We encourage you to get active and get involved!

Warning!!! Those participating will often find that after their first experience, they are foregoing other activities (like mowing the lawn) and riding instead.  Please join us at your own risk ;-)
