From Peter Sprague

General information around the Equalizer Enduro:
Race is going to be out at Tansky, with parking along the lower forestry road - Jordan River Main (about 2.5 km up the JR North Main from the China Beach entrance. We will open the gate for the event.
This is to be a fun enduro, where you choose your own speeds to maintain, so everyone gets a chance of winning.
All new trail, with the B loop being truly Novice friendly. Goal is for everyone to enjoy the ride.
We will schedule this similar to this year's Kirk, where the kids and family get to race in the morning and the full course race starts at noon.

Here are the rules I will be running the Equalizer under:
Event is cumulative timing, i.e Start to Finish, not check to check, as per the VMC Enduro rules.
Classes will be A, B, kids/small-wheel.
There will be A & B splits and a small-wheel loop.
Riders will pick two speed averages, one for the first half of the loop that is more arduous, ie. slower, and the second for the faster more open second section.
A and B classes will be based on chosen speed averages for the first half of the course.
A & B loops will be 25+ km, with Jr. riders being scored on one lap, B riders being scored on two laps, and A riders being scored on three laps.
Juniors will ride the B loop.
Gas will be available at roughly the mid-way point of the loops.

From the VMC Rulebook:
25. THE DAVE SHEPHED EVENTS
1. These events are to follow the General Rules for all events.
D. Equalizer Enduro
1. Competitors may choose their own speed from those offered by the committee.
2. Route and number of laps may be different for lower speeds.
3. Speedometers may not be used. (This does not preclude the use of an odometer in my book - Peter)
4. To equalized the time on course and therefore the size of errors the following formula will be used:
(Speed chosen X penalty points)/Fastest Speed = score.

EXAMPLE: If speeds were from 6 to 16km if his penalty points amounted to 8 then his score would be:
(8X6)/16 =3

13. ENDUROS – GENERAL RULES
1. The event is to be based upon the precise timing necessitating riders to ride on time, all the time.
2. The course is to be laid out over logging and gravel roads, and trails which are not arduous.
3. Time is to be cumulative from start to finish, with each check not being timed independently. Riders are to lose points at each check based on their estimated time of arrival as computed from the start. (1 pt for each minute early or late, except 2 pts for the second minute early, and 5 pts for each additional minute early- Peter)
If a rider is early or late at a checkpoint, he must correct it by the time he reaches the next checkpoint, or loose points again at this checkpoint based on his estimated time or arrival computed from the start. There are to be no more than two secret time checks, if any.
4. A rider may not leave a checkpoint until his calculated time. (This rule will not be enforced because without all riders on the same speed average, this would be impossible to regulate - Peter)

Thanks.
