I've added a few words from folks that knew Wes well.
From Gary Nordstrom I had the honour of knowing Wes when he was still active in the VMC as a scrambles event official. I saw the race where he won the final event of the year on a track near Duke Road. Riding his Gold Star, he inherited the lead when Terry Hyde’s Triumph 650 broke it’s primary chain. In that race were the who’s who of the day- Bill Smith, Vern Amor, Ben Hircock, Joe Brown, Martin Spriggs on a Tribsa 500, and Rob Moore. The year- 1965? Wes retired after that season as scrambles champion. Of course, I saw him ride the Mt Doug Hillclimb with such intensity. Off the track, he was such a gentle man with a ready sense of humour. It is such a loss when one of the greats passes away. He will be missed by any who knew him. My condolences to the family. Gary Nordstrom

There have also been condolences from Barb Lohrmann, Ken Burningham on the mainland, Russ Blow, Mike and Viki Venables from Delto (good friends of Wes and Joanne), Bev Gore-Langton, Gary Nordstrom, Martin Spriggs, Terry Hyde. I have a short "In Memoriam" in my next newsletter.
From Turk Perepalkin Sad news indeed, but when I think of Wes I am reminded of his sense of humour. I am sure everyone that knew him can think of a funny story about Wes, and I know a few. I also recall riding the hill climb at Mt. Doug when Wes came up to me, as I was about to go up the hill, and whispered in my ear his advice on getting a good run, it sure worked. RIP Wes
