How do I become a membr of the VMC? I would like to help with trail building - are you stil meeting in Sooke on Sundays? Where do you meet? Where do I purchase a trail pass?
I have to admit, I have considered getting out of the sport. Since I have been trying to blend my passion for off road activities with my family, I have run into problems of legal land use, and areas suitable for all members of the family. Suggestions?

To become a VMC member, you need to do a volunteer activity, i.e. come out and trail-build/clean-up for a day, then go to the monthly VMC meeting (see sidebar), fill out your application, and get voted in. Its $50 per year.
As to the Tansky trail building, some meet at the Castle in Sooke at 9 am Sunday for breakfast before heading out. Others just meet on-site around 10:30am on Sunday. The Geritol II crew usually go out mid-week, and are the most active trail-builders out there. I go out when my work schedule suits and/or Turk is able to take his machine out.
Right now there are a number of trails that need chainsaw work to reopen after the winter. So my plan over the next 2 weeks is to tackle them unless Turk is heading out.
You can call me (250-412-3444) or email when you would like to go out, or you could hook up with the Geritol II crew if that time suits.
Once you rode some of the trails, I think you would have a good feel for the suitability of the general area for your family. One of my goals to make more novice/intermediate trail loops so that there is a nice public family riding area for people to go to. There is both organized and bush camping around, so that is an added plus if one is looking to go for the weekend.
