Rididng season is here, if it was ever over. Rumour has it that there has been enforcement happening at some popular riding areas, in the Shawnigan area I believe. Feel free to post info here about access issues to help keep everyone in the loop about legitimate access, or enforcement on private lands that have historically been fair game. I have recently talked with Sooke RCMP and they stated that they will be activly enforcing Motor Vehicle Act laws with respect to off road vehicle use in the Sooke area west to the end of Otter Point Road, that can be by patrol car or on Quads. That means if you ride on any road that is passable by an automobile whether behind a locked gate or not you would be considered to be violating MV laws unless your bike has ICBC insurance, that equates to about 650 $ fine. For your information, According to BCORMA it is legal to ride on a designated Forest Service Road as long as you possess 200,000$ third party liability insurance and a valid Drivers license ( does not have to be for a motorcyle) If you have other pertinent info please feel free to post here for the benifit of all riders. Saw this in CRD parks meeting minutes. We did tell them this would continue to be a problem . For further reading all there minutes, agendas etc are at CRD.BC.CA Go to meet the CRD/ Document library/ Regional parks and choose what you like. Ben
Regional Parks 3 20 April 2011 Committee Minutes 9. General Manager’s Report Mr. Rushton reviewed his report regarding the following topics: Concession Services at Thetis Lake and Elk/Beaver Regional Park, Seasonal Camping at Island View Beach, and Motorized Vehicle Use in Regional Parks. In response to questions, staff advised how off-road vehicles were illegally entering parks and that the camping season at Island View Beach could not be further extended without additional resources.
