Where are the riding areas near Victoria ? - 2007/06/24 21:38
Hi, I just moved to Victoria from Kelowna. I have been looking all over for riding areas. I would be looking for off road, technical trail riding. So far all I have found is one area in Sooke ( Boyd's Pit). Does anyone know where else there is to ride ? are there any motocross tracks? Please include directions. Thanks Joel.

Hi Joel,
There is 100's of km of riding like what you are looking for.
See viorc.ca -> go to where to enjoy your recreation -> off-road motorcycling. I have started a guide to where to go to ride on the Island. There is loads of riding up towards Duncan - Burnt Bridge area, and Lake Cowichan, but on private timber lands. Boyds, Anderson Road, and Tansky/Jordan River are other areas.
The one problem we have on the Island compared to Kelowna is most of the timber land is privatly owned by TimberWest and Weyerhauser. So technically you would be tresspassing since TimberWest has shut down access to its lands last year.
The VMC had maintained a hugh XC trail network at Boyds, but they were told that they were non-gratis as of last July. Because of this most of the trails there are full of winter blow-down.
We are developing a new XC area just west of Jordan River that is on crown land. We just held our first Enduro at TanskyMain June 10th. See the guide for maps and access directions.
Join the club, and I'm sure someone will show you around. If you care about land access on the Island, or just want more information about it, join viorc.ca.
